Joseph B. Hawkins, Jr., MD, FACE
Dr. Hawkins is board certified in Diabetology, Endocrinology, and Metabolism. He is a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. After completing his training at Duke University Medical Center in 1988, he returned to Fresno where he taught at Valley Medical Center and conducted clinical research. He founded Sierra Endocrine Associates in 1993. Dr. Hawkins has long held a special interest in Osteoporosis and bone metabolism. He has extensive knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of metabolic bone disorders. He is also the leading authority in Osteoporosis in the Central Valley.
Chhaya Makhija, MD
Dr. Makhija is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. She completed her Internal Medicine at HackensackUMC Mountainside Hospital, NJ and Endocrinology fellowship at University of Nebraska Medical Center. She has publications related to Thyroid cancer, Adrenal disorders and Vitamin D in renowned journals. Dr. Makhija has special interest in endocrine disorders in young adult patients’ particularly early onset Type 2 Diabetes and Adrenal gland disorders. While treating her patients, she loves to invest time in educating them about mindful eating and positive thinking. She also enjoys teaching endocrinology to physicians in training.
Charles Morales, NP, MSN, CDE
Mr. Morales is an Endocrine Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Diabetes Educator. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees at California State University, Fresno. He served as the diabetes program coordinator at the University Medical Center in Fresno for ten years, where he managed inpatient and outpatient diabetes, taught physicians and nurses, and conducted clinical research. He joined Sierra Endocrine Associates in 1994. He is a regular lecturer for California State University, Fresno and conducts other professional education. He is a specialist in intensive diabetes management, including insulin pump therapy and pregnancy counseling.
Theresa Flemming, NP, MSN, CDE
Ms. Flemming is an Adult Nurse Practitioner. She earned her undergraduate and masters degree in nursing from University of San Francisco. Ms. Flemming joined Sierra Endocrine Associates in 2005 with fifteen years of cardiovascular experience. Ms. Flemming maintains a focused interest in and specializes in cardiovascular risk reduction and management.
